Edgar Lungu visit to registartion office 065Acting President Edgar Lungu has refuted assertions that the Patriotic Front government is imposing a socialist economic management system on the country’s liberalized economy.

This follows observations by the Private Sector Development Association (PSDA) that the recent economic moves by the PF government without consulting all stakeholders indicate traits of a socialist type of rule.

Lungu, who is also Home Affairs Minister, has explained that all the bans and change of policy directions that his government has recently put in place are only meant to benefit the people.

He affirms that his party was brought into power by the people of Zambia in a democratic process and that it does not matter whether some people call the PF a socialist party for as long as it is serving the interests of the people in the country.

Meanwhile Mr. Lungu has also noted that President Michael Sata’s urging of countries at the Boao forum in China to support Zambia’s former Commerce Minister Felix Mutati to be the next Secretary General of the Geneva-based UN Conference on Trade and Development, demonstrates that Zambia is a unitary state.

He adds that President Sata’s move is also a clear manifestation that the PF government goes beyond party politics in ensuring that social and economical development in the country is sustained.
