Patriotic Front authorities have angered traditional leaders in Katete after the ruling party ordered Police to release only party district Officials who master-minded the rioting and looting of various shops last week.
The properties looted belonged to suspects in the brutal murder of a Katete Day School grade 12 pupil Ruth Daka.
Traditional leaders in the area are demanding that the Katete District Commissioner a Mr Kaisa authorises the exhuming of the deceased’s body to ascertain whether its true some body parts are missing as alleged by the suspect who is under investigation.
Chief Kabaza, Mban’gombe and Chief Katumba this morning convened an urgent meeting with senior Indunas and Elders of the traditional council demanding that police through the DC to release all the other detainees suspected to have been involved in the riot.
The Chiefs have complained that most of the detainees are either working and risk losing their jobs or are on ARVs treatment and can’t be detained longer than necessary.
Sources in Katete say PF district Officials master-minded the riots that resulted in the destruction and looting of several Shops and burning of trucks belonging to local and Asian businessmen operating in a small town in Eaastern Province.
Over 288 rioters were arrested including PF cadres some of whom have been released.
Meanwhile, there are conflicting reports from investigators that Ruth Daka was buried without any of her body parts missing contrary to other reports that leaked in the Katete Business Community.
Reports have also implicated four men and one woman adding that Ruth was raped before brutally being murdered.
The Katete Chiefs have given the Katete District Commissioner up to Friday to clear all the misunderstanding or their subjects will go ahead and exhume Ruth’s the body.
