The ruling Patriotic Front has maintained its marginal lead in the Kapiri Mposhi by-election and remain certain to win the poll while the opposition United Party for National Development is all but winning the Lukulu West by-election.
With three polling stations remaining to tally the winner in Kapiri Mposhi, the PF’s Eddie Musonda is leading after polling 6,173, while Lawrence Zimba of the UPND has closely trailed with 5,382 votes.
The Returning Officer in Kapiri is expected to announce the winner shortly after 10:00 hours and Musonda is likely to earn the ticket that eluded him in 2011 general elections. Musonda petitioned and successfully won but following money distributing campaigns by the PF on poll day, it will not be surprising if Zimba also went to court.
In Lukulu West, the UPND started the counting on a smooth path when at the count of 11 polling stations, its candidate Misheck Mutelo was at 1,190 votes while the PF’s Eileen Imbwae who lost the 2011 election had managed 804. There are 40 polling stations in Lukulu West.
By the 29th polling station, Mutelo had increased the tally to 3, 372 votes while Imbwae was at 1,404 votes with the United Liberal Progressive party managing a paltry 67 votes.
