Alliance for Democracy and Development(ADD) Kitwe District Chairperson Victoria Muhau says the Lozi people of western province will not allow themselves to be divided and pushed around by the Patriotic Front (PF) government which has so far proved to be the worst culprit of tribalism and nepotism.

Ms Muhau said President Michael Sata had always wanted to divide the Lozi people because of his political interests, but the Lozi people would not allow themselves to be called names, divided and pushed around by the PF government which is dominated by one tribe.

Ms Muhau was reacting to recent media reports where President Sata is alleged to have said the Lozi people were just a small group of people in western province and that there were other tribes in the area.

During his tour of Sinjembela recently, President Sata is alleged to have said the Lozi people were only a small group of people in the area and that there were other tribes in the area, a statement which has angered many Lozi people.

The people in the area were also not happy with the President when he said “You are talking about the Barotse Agreement. Are you going to eat the Barotse Agreement?

The ADD Kitwe District chairperson said President Sata should stop talking about tribes whenever he goes to western province.

“When President Sata goes to other provinces, he does not talk about tribes, but when he goes to western province, he always talks about tribes and the Barotse Agreement. Why?

“Lozi is a general name. There are so many tribes in western province and Lozi is an umbrella name. Even the Nkoya’s are under the Lozi. Even when we go to Limulunga, songs which are sang are Nkoya songs.

“We expect President Sata to bring the people together, but he is always trying to divide the people of western province. As Lozi people, we will not allow ourselves to be pushed around by the PF government which is the worst culprit of nepotism and tribalism,” Mrs Muhau said.
