Police in Lusaka on Sunday morning allowed the Major Richard Kachingwe and Catherine Namugala-led faction, which is sponsored by the ruling Patriotic Front, but postering as a faction of the opposition MMD to demonstrate against party president Nevers Mumba.
The police that has been heavy handed in dealing with opposition in the recent past cast a blind eye as the faction marched to deliver a petition against Mumba whom it wants to illegally dethroned.
Namugala, who is facing investigations over a loan obtained from Napsa, has opted to align herself with the ruling PF in what is seen as an attempt to disentangle herself from the charges while Major Kachingwe whilst acting as secretary general of the party had sneaked into State House without the knowledge of his party.
The party subsequently expelled him and his attempts to thwart the expulsion in court have flunked. Namugala has also been expelled but is hanging on to the MMD on legal procedure.
Major Kachingwe and Namugala are being sponsored by President Sata to destabilise the opposition so as to strengthen the PF’s resolve for a one party state.
