UTH ZambiaWhen we raised the lack of oxygen and shortage of water at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) – the country’s biggest referral hospital – we were called all sorts of names.

The idea was to stop us from talking about the problems that are affecting UTH and ultimately their clients, who are not healthy people, but patients.

We watched with horror, how a premature baby can die of starvation. This is Lusaka where the hospital is 3 kilometers from the Ministry of Health Headquarters and just 800 metres or so from State House where President Michael Sata, the so called man of the people, resides. What more a hospital in Lundazi, Vubwi and Kaputa, what sort of problems are they facing? How many of these children are dying in these far places?

Why should children painfully die in that manner when President Sata is happy and rejoicing when traitors like Patrick Ngoma and Richard Taima cause by-elections costing billions that could have save the lives of these our children?

And look at that disgraced physician Dr Chikusu, donning a very expensive suit, going on TV and giving the excuse that the supplier has not supplied preNan milk? What nonsense is this? Dr Chikusu, the Deputy Minister of Health, but a Judas Iscariot Member of Parliament from the opposition MMD. And he can proudly appear on TV to talk about suppliers as the cause of death.

Really? Dr Chikusu, is your conscious clear with that excuse? Where were you and your staff when the milk was running out? This is not an isolated case. This spells a huge problem in the entire health care system, an the PF style of governance, which needs an urgent solution.

Chikusu should not skirt around issues by passing the buck to a phantom supplier who he could not even disclose. Who is this supplier? Why has the supplier failed to supply? Doesn’t MOH and UTH have procurement specialists and stores managers? Don’t these professionals know something called lead time for them to order baby food at short notice when they know that this product is not locally manufactured?

This is the problem with PF. The PF came to power to try to fix EVERYTHING because according to them, nothing was working. They tried to fix the fertilizer distribution and we are tethering on the fringes of hunger.

The PF tried to fix many other things without first understanding how those things worked, but to what end? In other countries, Dr Chikusu would have resigned, but we all know what he will do, finally defect to the PF and cause a by-election that will gobble millions. Could it be that he is happy to drink the blood of these poor souls?
