Sports minister Chishimba Kambwili has confirmed the PF government’s by-election obsession by saying they are budgeted for.
Kambwili, who in a moment of lapse, shocked the gathering in Kafulafuta that was welcoming yet another defector by saying by-elections were always budgeted for.
Apart from petitioning over 50 parliamentary seats, the PF has also moved to entice opposition MPs to join the PF by promising them deputy ministerial positions.
“Belamibepa ati twabula indalama shama hospital ku my by-elections. (Let them not lie to you that we have got money for hospitals to by elections). Do not be cheated these by-elections are budgeted for,” he said becoming the first public official to put it on record that the by-elections strategy will continue.
Kafulafuta MP James Chishiba on Sunday resigned from the opposition Movement for Multi-party Democracy to join the ruling PF becoming one of the more than 10 MPs contributing to nearly by-elections in almost two years of the Patriotic Front’s rule.
The PF has appointed all the MPs that have crossed over to deputy ministerial positions having an over 80 member cabinet – the highest in Africa.
