The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) has observed that the many by-elections being held in the country are worrying considering that huge sums of money are being spent on them, instead of the money going towards poverty reduction programmes.
CSPR Information and Communication Programme officer, Diana Ngula, says the eradication of poverty starts with the government through the Members of Parliament who understand the many issues affecting the people they represent.
Ngula says it is worrying that poverty levels in Zambia are still high while huge amounts of money are being spent on unnecessary by-elections.
Ngula says parliamentarians should take the lead in the fight against poverty.
She notes that Zambia faces many economic challenges which need immediate attention.
Ngula says Members of Parliament causing by-elections should be considerate of the people they represent before creating by-elections.
