The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has been urged not to group the other four expected by-elections together with the June 20th Feira by-election only in the interest of cutting down on costs for holding the by-elections on separate dates.
This follows Saturday’s announcement by the ECZ spokesperson Cris Akufuna that the ECZ would consider holding the other four by-elections on the same date as that of the Feira by-election scheduled for June 20.
Anti-Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) executive director Richwell Mulwani has observed that holding all by by-elections on June 20 will be too short a time for political parties in the country to strategize their preparations to take in all five by-elections at the same date.
Mulwani also notes holding five by-elections at same date will also be strenuous on the part of Police to man all five constituencies at the same.
Other than Feira, by elections are expected in Solwezi East and Mkushi South where MMD MPs resigned while Chipata Centre seat was nullified by the Supreme Court.
