Congolese Militia Nab Zambian Fisherman

FishermenA fisherman in Nsama district of Northern Province has been arrested by Congolese militias for allegedly fishing on the foreign side of Lake Tanganyika.

The captors are demanding over K13.5 million before they can let the suspect free from their custody.

Nsama district commissioner Panji Chiluba confirmed that the incident happened on Sunday when the fishermen went fishing on Lake Tanganyika.

Chiluba said the three fishermen were captured were captured by militias while two escaped leaving behind a colleague who is still captured.

Homes Affairs spokesperson Moses Siwali also confirmed saying government is still negotiating for the release of the other fisherman left behind.

Siwali warned fishermen against crossing into areas that fall in neighbouring countries.
