The Southern Africa Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has observed that government should have disclosed its intention to lift the fuel subsides way before it announced the move to avoid the continued rows over its decision.
SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Chembe says government’s abrupt removal of fuel subsidies in the country has made it difficult for a majority of the people in the country to fully understand the motive behind such a move.
Mr. Chembe has also told Qfm in an interview that it would have been better if government removed the subsidies over a longer period of time as opposed to an abrupt decision, to enable a gradual change and adaptation in the country.
He said government should however explain further to the public on the decision it made to lift the fuel subsidies.
