Supporters of President Michael Sata’s ruling Patriotic Front government this morning attacked two journalists, one of whom is a female newscaster, after the two went to cover a story around illegal invasion of a piece of land in the capital Lusaka.
The two assaulted journalists have been identified as senior newsroom staffer Kennedy Phiri and his counterpart Francesca Phiri-Banda. Banda is also one of the private television station’s newscasters.
Muvi TV confirmed the attack but is yet to give more details regarding the condition of the journalists who were assaulted as well as the incident.
“MUVI TV journalist: Kennedy Phiri and Francesca Phiri-Banda were physically assaulted after they had interviewed the owner of the ten hectares piece of land which the cadres have allegedly invaded,” an alert on the Ask Muvi TV official facebook page reads.
PF carders are notorious thugs that pounce on journalists or their opponents but most of their hooligan behaviour has gone unreported in an environment of a heavily biased dominated media and a compromised police service.
