Striker Collins Mbesuma was among the first two foreign-based players that made it for this morning’s Chipolopolo training session ahead of next week 2014 Brazil World Cup qualifier against Lesotho at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Coach Herve Renard named 24 players in the team for the double June qualifiers and began immediate preparations today with Mbesuma, the Orlando Pirates, striker making a rare early appearance alongside defender Joseph Musonda who also features in South Africa for Golden Arrows.
All the local players that included Alex Ng’onga, Bonwell Mwape (both Nchanga Rangers), Mukuka Mulenga (Power Dynamos) Jimmy Chisenga, Bronson Chama (both Red Arrows) Danny Munyau (Red Arrows), Davy Kaumbwa (Green Buffaloes) and Rabson Mcheleng’anga (Nchanga Rangers) were present at the training session.
Zambia play Lesotho on June 8 before tackling Sudan on June 15 in Ndola hoping to take their seven points lead to a possible 13 before the final group stage match against Ghana in September.
Renard’s Chipolopolo currently lead Group D on seven points, one better than closest rivals who travel to Sudan on June 9.
The eventual leaders of Group D will qualify to the knockout stage of 10 teams where Africa five winners of the two leg set up will qualify to the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
