Opposition party Movement for Multi party Democracy (MMD) has warned that the party may be forced to defend itself if the ruling Patriotic Front is unwilling or unable to reign in its violent youth cadres who have been regularly attacking campaign workers.
MMD Mufumbwe campaign manager Newton Samakayi says the party in Mufumbwe is capable of handling any high scale of violence but states that it does not want any violence to erupt in Mufumbwe or any party of the country.
He notes that the people of Zambia need to know that if the MMD and the UPND reacted to the provocation of the PF, there would have already been serious violence in Mufumbwe but states that the two parties are trying by all means to restrain its youths from hitting back.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka this morning, Mr. Samakayi also stated that North-Western province Police Commissioner Eugene Sibote is not being sincere with the people of Mufumbwe because he is not protecting the interest of the people of Mufumbwe but is allowing to be polluted by lies of the PF.
Mr. Samakayi has since humbly advised Mr. Sibote to have a clear and precise projection of the by-elections in Mufumbwe.
And Mr. Samakayi has disclosed that the party has got information that the PF is printing MMD and UPND campaign materials in Matero which he says they intend to use in their violent activities in Mufumbwe.
He alleges that the PF intends to masquerade in the UPND/MMD chitenge materials and T-shirts and beat up people in the villages, the same way they did in Livingstone.
Mr. Samakayi says the PF should be informed that people of Mufumbwe are aware of all their dirty and primitive tricks.
