Zesco workersOver 50 workers at ZEGA limited have had their contacts terminated with management citing increased high operational costs.

The employees of the agricultural firm have been notified of their fate and have appealed to government to intervene.

Company chief executive Don MacDonald has refused to back to the employees’ demands to address them.

The workers said they were saddened that they were facing unemployment with their appeals to government going unheeded.

“We have tried to have the MD address us but we have not succeeded and the government has not helped us,” one of the employees said.

“No jobs for us although we have cried to government.”

The Zambian labour industry has experienced increased job losses following what investors term high costs of production mainly pinned to fuel and electricity tariffs.

Recently government removed subsidies on fuel a move that has sparked price increases and high production costs.
