Government says it will not condone any acts of thuggery and violence by any group regardless of their political affiliation.
In a statement, acting President Edgar Lungu who is also home affairs minister says the incident which occurred on Firday in Matero is highly regrettable and condemned in the strongest possible terms and should not be allowed to happen.
Lungu says Zambia is a democractic country that demands people to learn to co-exit regardless of their divergent views on various national matters.
He notes that Zambia should not at any time resort to any kind of physical confrontation whenever they have a difference in opinion adding that it paints a bad picture of the level of democracy which is the envy of other countries.
Lungu has since directed the police to thoroughly probe the issue and bring those found wanting to book.
He has also refuted assertions that it is the patriotic front cadres involved stating that there is no evidence to prove that.
He however notes that he has implored the police to ensure that the law takes its course without any form of partiality or segregation adding that the PF government does not support any form of anarchy.
Lungu has further advised the members of the public to give the earliest first hand information to the police instead of rushing to the media.
He also notes that the government acknowledges and appreciates the role of journalists in the country and regrets the continuous attacks on them and the damage caused to their equipment.
Meanwhile, chief government spokesperson Mr.Kennedy Sakeni says government has regretted the violence that occurred in Lusaka’s Matero township.
In a statement, Sakeni says government will not side with anybody regardless of their political affiliation.
He has since advised the clergy against using houses of worship for occasions that are clearly political.
