Nine opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) supporters are feared dead in Luangwa’s Feira constituency.
The nine are said to have died in a road traffic accident in an area called Kavalamanja around 20:00 hours this evening after attending a rally to drum up support for their candidate Eularia Zulu in the June 20 by-election.
Reports obtained by Zambia Reports indicate that the nine supporters were in a truck when the driver lost control leading to the fatal accident.
Feira constituency will hold polls on June 20 after former MMD lawmaker Patrick Ngoma was enticed to join the ruling party. Ngoma is one of the MMD MPs that was serving as a deputy minister before he officially resigned.
Former permanent secretary for Eastern Province Eularia Zulu is challenging Ngoma, now on PF ticket, as opposition UPND while the MMD is fielding Elias Phiri.
