A mob in Ndola on Saturday set ablaze a Volvo tanker driven by a Somali national after he knocked down a pedestrian who died on the spot.
The Volvo tanker, registration number ACT 7641T, killed a pedestrian on Liberia Road, Opposite Kawambwa Tea Company around 16.30 hours in the industrial area.
Police assistant public relations officer Esther Katongo said the vehicle was completely burnt, while its driver bolted.
She said residents were angered when the driver failed to control his vehicle and hit into a rubber roller compactor which was working on the road and later hit a pedestrian who died on the spot. The driver ran way, while the body of the victim was taken to Ndola Central
Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem and identification.
Meanwhile, a seven-year-old pupil died on the spot along Mutanda-Mwinilunga Road in Solwezi after he was hit by a motor vehicle.
The pupil of Mwanimambwe Primary School was hit on Saturday around 16.00 hours by a Mitsubishi Canter registration number ACV 2375 driven by Richard Mwamba, 39, of Solwezi. She was knocked down as she tried to cross the road.
Meanwhile, a partially-decomposed body of a man who went missing a week ago has been discovered in Pemba in Southern Province.
The deceased was identified as Timothy Hacinki, of Simatanga Village in Chief Moyo’s area, who was found with bruises on the back, swollen left hand and had blood stains on the mouth.
Southern Province Police chief Charity Katanga identified the victim as a Mr Hacinki.
Katanga said the victim had since been buried but Police would exhume the body for purposes of more investigations.
