Muhabi LunguOpposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) has vowed to remain a strong and formidable party in the country despite the continued nullification of its Parliamentary seats by the courts of law petitioned by the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) after the 2011 general elections.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court upheld a High Court ruling to nullify MMD Malambo Member of Parliament Maxwell Mwale’s election.

Director of communications in the office of the MMD president, Muhabi Lungu says much as the Supreme Court’s ruling to uphold nullification of its Malambo parliamentary seat has come against his party’s preferences, they will still field a candidate once the date for the by-election has been set.

Lungu has also affirmed his party’s continued zeal to provides checks and balances to the ruling Patriotic Front.

A number of petitions challenging the election of MMD members of parliament are still pending before the courts of law, while a number of seats have been nullified.
