Patriotic Front cadres have set the independent Daily Nation Newspaper as their next on their hit list of attacks that has seen opposition leaders, the church and civil society leaders have their turn of receiving abuse.
On Monday morning following riots in some parts of Lusaka that were provoked by the police action to fire teargas at protesting bus, taxi drivers and citizens who got incensed by the police’s heavy handedness, the irate PF cadres attempted to break the protests in Chainda by moving to beat up the protestors.
Bus drivers and ordinary citizens are now aware their once favourite newspaper The Post was heavily compromised and had become an accomplice to the PF bad rule perpetrated by Michael Sata and its owner Fred M’membe.
The PF cadres got incensed when the bus drivers and taxi drivers said they were headed for the Daily Nation to expose the cadres.
The cadres mobilized themselves and indicated that the Daily Nation would be fixed for their supposed anti-government stance.
Riots broke out Chainda, Mandevu and Matero as cops got brutal on the unarmed taxi drivers.
The protest was about the Road Traffic and Safety Agency being corrupt and impounding of buses on flimsy grounds.
They contend that while business is tougher with high fuel prices they are being inconvenienced by the police who are illegally asking for bribes to release the buses.
