The Speaker of the National Assembly has ordered Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu to explain the killings of the two Kampasa residents by the Zambia National Service (ZNS) officers and a soccer fan who was shot at in Ndola by Zambia Police officers.
This was after MMD Chembe Member of Parliament Mwansa Mbulakulima stood on a point of order asking if government was in order to remain silent over the killings that took place in Kampasa settlement in Chongwe District where two people lost life after ZNS officers shot them.
According to the Daily Nation, Mbulakulima also wanted to know whether the PF government was in order to remain silent over the shooting of soccer fan in Ndola last week by a police officer and why there were increased violent activities under the PF government.
Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Mukhondo Lungu ordered Mr. Lungu to issue a comprehensive statement this week on the matter.
And UPND Monze Central Member of Parliament Jack Mwiimbu expressed disappointment over the conduct of the police and police officers who were blocking MPs from holding meetings in their constituencies without asking for permission from District Commissioners and police officers.
“The minister of home affairs came to this house and informed the house privileges pertaining to MPs who visits their constituencies and he did inform this house that his officers in his ministry had no intention of stopping or frustrating MPs who visits their constituencies and addresses meeting in t heir constituencies. Mr. Speaker sir, one of your own Hon. Mucheleka Patrick was harassed by a battalion of policemen in his constituency as he was doing his parliamentary duties that arise from his privilege as a member of parliament,” he said.
Mwiimbu said that the PF government had ordered police and District Commissioners to harass MPs, “Mr. Speaker for him to visit his constituency, he was told that he must obtain permission from the District Commissioner and an officer in charge of the Zambia Police who are very junior civil servants in the constituency. Mr. Speaker through you we would like to find out whether your Members of Parliament under the PF are now being hindered to perform their duties as members of Parliament in their various constituencies.”
MMD Keembe MP Ronnie Shikapwasha also observed increased violence under the PF when he informed parliament that Zambia under the PF was a source of concern.
“On television we saw very horrifying pictures where alleged cadres of PF were carrying weapons of mass destructions going to a church in Matero to go and mass destroy worshippers who were praying in that church and we latter saw these worshipers being beaten and some of them are bishops, camera men and Christians and other people world over are worried about what is happening in the country,” he said.UPND Choma Central MP
Cornelius Mweetwa expressed shock at the levels of abuse and violation of human rights under the PF government citing the beating of Alliance for a Better Zambia (ABZ0 president Fr. Frank Bwalya’s attack at a radio station in Kitwe.
Mweetwa expressed shock that PF cadres attacked Fr. Frank Bwalya and pour shake shake opaque bear on him an act he described as barbaric.
