National Restoration Party (NAREP) youths have accused Patriotic Front chief propagandist Fred M’membe of hatred against United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema.
M’membe, in his editorial of Wednesday 19th June, 2013 accused Narep leader Elias Chipimo and Hichilema, of running their political parties based on their pockets in the alleged belief that they were rich men.
The PF media man, who is enjoying government business contracts, described Hichilema as a chap.
But Narep youth league leader Wilson Banda has advised M’membe to start reporting matters objectively as he did in the passed when he stayed out of politics and carried out a noble duty of professional journalism.
“Though we understand your hatred for Hakainde Hichilema we urge you to be respectful … you can never refer to a leader, politician and a man who has a family as ‘CHAP’,” Banda stated.
“Our appeal to Fred M’membe as NAREP youths is that ‘Go back to the drawing board, and start reporting matters objectively or otherwise we shall be made to believe that you are not objective and only supported PF because of your own selfish reasons not on principles.”
The youths expressed disappointment with the attacks on Chipimo Jr and the party in general.
“In their editorial, the Post newspaper accused our party president of bragging to be rich and promising party members big budgets and went further to make demonic prophecy that a party like NAREP will not last long, and will never be able to win an election and form government.
“Even when Mr Chipimo is striving hard to introduce issue-based politics in Zambia, some people who are used to petty politics of name calling and use of lies and cheap propaganda are trying to frustrate his efforts,” said Banda.
Banda said Chipimo has never on any occasion boasted about his wealth or ever promised anyone a single ngwee for joining NAREP.
He said people are joining NAREP because of its appealing, objective and issue-based politics.
“The people of Zambia are tired of retrogressive politics of name calling which Fred M’membe and his paper have been practicing for years and which has not helped this nation develop.
“What Fred M’membe and his paper did not consider when publishing that editorial comment is that everything starts from somewhere. All these parties that are established like UNIP did not raise their funds overnight, it was a process that took hard work and time,” he said.
Banda said NAREP members were working tirelessly to build the party.
