The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has stood up to Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba who they have warned against unwarranted public attacks on them.
Acting spokesperson Sylvia Bwalya said Kabimba was wrong to say the commission exceeded its mandate when it censured paramount Chief Mpezeni for parading himself at Patriotic Front rally in Chipata.
Bwalya said Mpezeni had flouted the electoral code by publicly campaigning for a political party and coercing his subjects into voting for PF candidate Lameck Mangani.
She said the ECZ was also within its right when it censured ZNBC for exceeding the lawful time mandate for running an advert on television.
The ECZ said they were within their right to also remind the ruling party of the demands of fair play.
Kabimba on national television on Wednesday said the ECZ exceeded its mandate by warning ZNBC for its breach of the Electoral Code of Conduct and accusing the body of being mischievous allegedly they were siding with the opposition.
