Some Zambia Amature Athletic Association members have accused its president Elias Mpondela of leaving them and instead taking his lover, Leya to Moscow for the international games.
Sources have claimed that Mpondela dropped the national coach Felix Mbuye and replaced him with Leya at the expense of the association.
Mbuye said he was initially scheduled to travel to Moscow but that when he arrived in Lusaka enroute to Moscow, he was informed that he will not travel.
“They told me that I am not going because I have no ticket. I was surprised because I have been preparing for the trip and I traveled from Copperbelt ready to go,” he said.
He was disappointed with the development and wondered what had changed from the first time they started preparing for the trip.
In response, Mpondela said the coach was left behind because of lack of funds to accommodate him on the trip.
He said he has paid for Leya’s trip to Moscow and not used funds from the association.
He said the issue is just being raised by people who want to tarnish his image.
Among the Zambians participating in the Moscow games includes US based runner Prince Mumba and Yvonne Nalisuwa. The games will start on August 10th.
