The offices of a Lusaka based lawyer Martha Mushipe were on Monday night broken into and raided by suspected thieves who got away with a computer in which most of her sensitive and political cases were stored.
The offices of Mushipe and Associates which are housed at MillenniumVillage were broken into in circumstances that have left the lawyer frightened and mystified.
Mushipe who has been offering legal representation to Kampasa village
residents who were forcibly evicted from their homes by the Zambia National Service (ZNS) in clashes that left two people dead confirmed the breaking-in to the Daily Nation on Tuesday.
Mushipe said the break-in was smartly and expertly done as the suspected thieves removed the glass partition that formed the wall of her office.
Millennium Villas are situated in Long Acres and are heavily guarded and secured by a well known security company but the thieves managed to find their way into Ms Mushipe’s office and picked a computer.
Mushipe said while she was not expecting her office to be broken into, she was aware that she was being tailed by people suspected to be state agents for unknown reason.
She said there had been some people who had been trailing her but that she did not think that they would eventually break into her office.
Mushipe has also been offering legal representation to United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema and Itezhi-Tezhi Member of Parliament Greyford Monde.
She said at one time, while at Woodlands Shopping complex at Pick and Pay, two men who had been trailing her took photographs of her and the children and when concerned citizens confronted the two men they quickly drove off.
Mushipe feared that her life was in danger because it had become highly possible that the state could be hunting her because of the cases she was dealing with in courts.
“It is true that my office was broken into on Monday night and a computer on the front desk was taken. What is surprising however is the suspected thieves are did not break anything. They smartly removed the glass partition that serve as the wall to my office.
The Mushipe and Associates offices are housed at the Millennium Village Villas and the place is secured and guarded heavily but these people managed to break in and got away with the computer where most of the cases were,” Ms Mushipe said.
