MMD Mkaika TeamThe opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) has expressed optimism of scooping the Mkaika parliamentary by-election slated for September 5th this year.

MMD president Nevers Mumba says the overwhelming support that the MMD candidate Peter Phiri got on Friday during the filing in of his credentials to take part in that area’s by-election has given much confidence to the former ruling party to retain the parliamentary seat.

Dr Mumba says his party is confident that people of Mkaika constituency will send a strong message to the PF candidate David Phiri on the polling day that they are interested in a leader who is concerned about addressing their challenges as opposed to one who is merely seeking to build his political career.

Dr. Mumba says in its campaigns in the constituency, the MMD will be targeting among others, people who are facing challenges in getting Agricultural inputs and those who are having challenges in transport cost arising from the fuel costs in the country.

The Mkaika parliamentary seat fell vacant after the then MMD area member of Parliament David Phiri joined the ruling Patriotic Front on whose ticket he will re-contest the seat.

Others participating in the Mkaika by-election, where campaigns have already commenced, include NAREP’s Nelson Mwale and Nigel Mpakateni for UNIP.
