BarotselandSenenga United Party for National Development Member of Parliament Mufalali Likando says government should address the root of the Barotse secessionists rather than resorting to mass arrests.

Commenting on the arrest of 45 Barotse Freedom movement activists after the police moved to thwart celebrations that were prompted by the swearing in of Afumba Mumbota as Aministrative Officer, Likando said the issue should be approached with caution.

Likando said it was not true that only 45 people had been arrested but over 100 people have been detained.

He said the problems in Western Province were caused by the failure by the ruling party to deliver on the promises made to restore the Barotse Agreement of 1964.

“The PF government should know that the problems in Western Province have been caused by the failure to deliver on the promises made to the Lozi people of Western Province. Mr Sata promised the people of Western Province that once in power he will restore the Barotse Agreement of 1964,” he said.

“They are lying that they have only arrested 45 people but in one district there are about 85 arrested.”

And Director of Public Prosecutions has directed the the Western Province command to forward the docket for the arrested freedom fighters to his office.
