Petauke Central Movement for Multiparty Democracy candidate for the September 26 parliamentary by-election Dora Siliya has welcomed the High Court’s decision to allow her and two others the right to re-contest their seats.
On Tuesday High Court judge Mungeni Mulenga granted Siliya and UPND’s Maxwell Mwale and Hastings Sililo the right to re-contest their seats that were nullified by the courts of law.
Siliya said it was sad that a clique of individuals wanted to sabotage the judiciary and let it pander to their whims.
“We applaud the honourable decision by the High Court because it shows that they are not ready to to be used and abused by a small group of people that want to be in control,” she said.
“The Zambian people deserve better and need to have their choice not be trashed.”
The Electoral Commission of Zambia has set September 26 after the election was initially postponed following the court action.
