Nason MsoniPolitical activist Nason Msoni says Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba should think about victims of human rights abuses before he advocates for the withdrawal of African countries from the International Criminal Court.

And the United Party for National Development says usually the countries with something to hide are the most scared about the ICC.

Commenting on Kabimba’s support for Kenya’s withdrawal from the ICC, Msoni said Kabimba who is justice minister should be the last person to advocate the withdrawal from the ICC.

“The legitimate question we are asking misguided elements and advocates for the withdrawal from the ICC is, whether they have any human decency to consider the plight and Justice of the victims of the heinous mass murder committed by individuals on whose behalf they’re tempting to champion?” he asked.

“It is inconceivable and tragic for a Minister and person seating at the helm of the Ministry of Justice to advocate for the withdrawal of Zambia from the ICC.”

Msoni added: “The mere fact that a number of ex-Presidents and other African leaders have been indicted does not qualify for such warped political assertion and attempt to make a case for Zambia to withdraw from the ICC.”

Kabimba has been quoted advocating for the African governments to reject the ICC because it was not established on good faith as it is only meant to humiliate African leaders.

Msoni said, “Arguably the failure by African leaders themselves to uphold and respect the rule of law and their respective country constitutions clearly is what delivers Potential candidates to the ICC.”

Kabimba who was speaking in his capacity as Council of African Political Parties (CAPP) president said his organization supports Kenya for pulling out of the ICC and that other African Countries should also be urged to follow suit.

And the UPND echoed Msoni’s sentiments on its social network facebook page.

“We are saying Zambia stays in the ICC because we feel those that have as a default, abuse of human rights should be the ones to be scared of staying on in the ICC,” reads the statement.

“It’s like what we heard about “donor aid without Governance as a condition…”. Well if you follow the internationally agreed Governance standards why would you say such a thing?”
