President Michael Sata has endorsed Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba’s Lusaka faction leader Robert Chikwelete as the Patriotic Front Lusaka Province chairman.
Speaking during an impromptu rally held at Chawama grounds yesterday, President Sata, who had initially gone to commission the link 2000 road project in Chawama, decided to hold a rally.
The presidential chopper initially landed at Kuku Compound grounds but after taking a sweeping glance of the terrain where residents had gathered to welcome him, President Sata without disembarking, ordered the chopper to be landed at Chawama grounds with the curious crowds in the high density compound entertaining themselves to the spectacle as they followed the plane to Chawama.
During the rally, President Sata announced that Chikwelete was the new Lusaka District chairman taking over from Goodson Banda who belongs to the Wynter Kabimba faction.
President Sata said it was wrong to tar roads in rural areas when the roads in Lusaka were dusty.
“You are busy making tar roads in rural areas when people in Chawama are dying from dust, you are busy making tar roads even in Petauke,” he said.
Defence minister Mwamba and his justice counterpart Wynter Kabimba have locked shadow boxing gloves in their presidential bid to unseat Sata weaved in different styles – one of endorsements and the other of party mobilisation.
