The Technical Committee on the constitution says it will not avail the public an opportunity to critique the final draft constitution as earlier planned.
Technical committee spokesperson Ernest Mwansa said the draft would only be handed to the president.
“We have abandoned the programme to release the final draft constitution to the public as earlier planned because we did not get the response we wanted,” Mwansa said.
“We will just hand it over to the President and not simultaneously with the public as we have announced.”
The announcement is a strong departure from the earlier set roadmap that was set to be done in a transparent way to ensure the public participated.
President Sata is expected to receive the final draft constitution next month.
