Clik here to view. The Zambia National Farmers Union has raised the flag on government’s delay to pay farmers after their supply of maize to the Food Reserve Agency.
ZNFU president Jervis Zimba said the delay was causing farmers to fall behind in terms of preparing for the next farming season.
Zimba said government had breached its 10 to 14 days payment window and had neglected to pay farmers affecting their preparation for their next farming season.
He said farmers needed at least a month before the farming season commenced to have the inputs in place but observed that farmers could not buy inputs as they ahd not been paid by FRA.
Recently Agriculture Minister Bob Sichinga admitted that government was failing to pay farmers on time but promised to rectify the challenge.
