Anyone remembers the once ‘almighty’ Patriotic Front general secretary Wynter Kabimba? The man was at the roof-top of the ruling party for the last two years. He had so much power that he could storm investigative government offices with cadres to intimidate civil servants.

He commanded so much authority and had President Michael Sata’s ear. He could hire and fire anyone within seconds. Not anymore.

The headlines across all major newspapers today say it all. Even the state owned but PF controlled newspapers – the Zambia Daily Mail and Times of Zambia – are not with Kabimba. A few days ago, they were under the control of Amos Malupenga (an apparent Kabimba ally) and today they are under Emmanuel Mwamba (an apparent member of the anti-Kabimba clique). They swapped Permanent Secretary positions for Western Province and Information.

And now it is clear Kabimba is an unwanted element. Following the protest by Lusaka youth calling for his resignation yesterday, the Zambia Dail Mail unleashed a banner headline; “Wynter In Hot Soup… as youth demand his exit due to management failure.” It’s sister broadsheet – Times of Zambia – has flashed the front page with a headline; “Kabimba Under Siege.”

The PF propaganda tabloid – The Post Newspaper – which has been working with Kabimba to unseat President Sata – the candidate it supported in 2011 – opted to toll the embattled chief executive’s position claiming tribalism with a banner headline; “It’s Tribalists At Work – Kabimba. A clique of tribal elements is financing PF Cadres to cover up their agenda.”

But the rather independent Daily Nation carried a headline quoting the General Secretary stating; “PF Most Indisciplined, Says Kabimba.”

This is the breakfast menu with which the once flamboyant and untouchable Kabimba has been met with today. The bells are clear and it will not be too long before his exit route is marked.

If nothing drastic happens and President Sata does not change his mind, Kabimba will be history sooner than later. Not even the defunt Zambia Republican Party where he came from will resurrect his political fortumes, if he has any to talk about.

Kabimba is an unlikable person because of his arrogant and pompous style that makes it worse among his peers in the ruling party including Members of Parliament where he is surviving on a nomination ticket which when revoked sends him back to his hunting business and law firm where he struggles to pull off good arguments.

For spectators, the fence is becoming even more interesting to see whether this Kabimba free fall will be saved by the man who has convinced himself as the kingmaker and was grooming the embattled Secretary General for President in 2016. Fred M’membe may have misled Kabimba.
