Deputy Inspector General of Police Solomon Jere has entangled himself in Patriotic Front wrangles after some party officials accused him of being biased towards the Geoffrey Mwamba camp.
Goodson Banda, who was deposed by the now position-less Robert Chikwelete, said Jere was working hard to ensure that Lusaka Province Patriotic Front youth Chairperson Kennedy Kamba was convicted for his alleged role in the intra party violence that left some party members dead.
Banda said Jere had not been fair in handling the matter and engineered the refusal of police bond for Kamba on Thursday whilst the PF official appeared for interrogation at the Lusaka Central Police.
“We are not happy with the Deputy Inspector General of Police. Solomon Jere has been taking sides in this matter because it is very clear that Kamba was not fairly treated,” he said.
“You can see even the manner he was taken to court with armed police like he was an armed robber. Kamba has cooperated with the police and there was no need to humiliate him in that manner.”
But Jere has denied interfering in the matter saying the matter was not under his care but with the provincial office.
He said he had acted above board in the matter and would not meddle in party politics whilst serving in the Zambia Police.
On Thursday PF Lusaka Province Youth Chairperson Kamba was arrested for proposing violence and was locked up after being denied bail.
He was however released on bail after appearing in court on Friday.
