Ronald Sate SateNkana finally broke their 13 years wait to claim the Zambian league title after convincingly beating Red Arrows 4-1 on the closing day of the season.

The battle had been down to Nkana and Zesco with victory for Masautso Mwale’s side the surest way of adding their 12th title in their cabinet.

The Kitwe side had got off to a nervy start when they fell to a 27th minute Stanley Nshimbi goal to stun Nkana stadium into a deathly silence.

Panic had gripped the Nkana camp as news filtering through from Nchanga Stadium was that Zesco had taken an early lead through John Chig’andu at which stage the Ndola side seemed to smelling the title.

But Donashano Malama restored parity three minutes later before Ronald Kampamba added his name on the score sheet from the penalty to ensure Nkana went to the break leading 2-1.

Once Nkana found their rhythm it was one way with Kampamba adding two more goals to bag his hat trick and take his season goal tally to 18 and deservedly be named league top scorer for second successive season.

Nkana wound up the season on 59 points, three better than Zesco United whose draw against third placed Nchanga Rangers earned them 55 points to hand them a slot in the CAF Confederation Cup next year.

In Lusaka defending champions Zanaco made up for a disappointing season by beating Power Dynamos 2-1 at Sunset Stadium to finish eighth on the log.

A brace from Aubrey Zulu gave the bankers maximum points while Julius Situmbeko scored the consolation for the visitors.

Nkana’s league crown had come on the back of nonchalant shifts in the last three fixtures that saw them go winless.

Full results:
Nkana 4-1 Red Arrows
Nchanga 1-1 Zesco
Zanaco 2-1 Power Dynamos
