Lusaka-high-court-big-pixThe Judiciary has suspended Nakonde magistrate John Njapau for alleged corruption involving K10, 000 (K10 million old currency).

Njapau has been suspended after corruption allegations surfaced involving about K10, 000 he received from a Tanzanian national whom he convicted after collecting to subvert justice.

He is alleged to have received the money to acquit a suspect on charges of theft by servant but after overwhelming evidence was produced in court, Njapau was left with no option but to jail the suspect.

This situation angered relatives to the convict from Tanzania who almost burnt Njapau’s court interpreter Bowman Sichone who was being used as a courier to collect the money.

Sichone was caught in Tanzania by the relatives to the convict while doing his shopping and they were about to set him ablaze when alert police officers from that country intervened and rescued him.

Angry relatives to the convict went on to formally complain about the conduct of Njapau and his interpreter with regard to their corrupt business transactions.

The judiciary has since acted by giving Njapau 15 days in which to exculpate himself while placed on suspension to pave way for investigations.
