Over 3, 000 pigs have been slaughtered following the outbreak of swine fever in Lusaka.
Agriculture Minister Bob Sichinga said the disease was not yet wiped out but had been contained.
Sichinga said some owners of the pigs had been compensated at a K300 rate per animal.
He also said government had managed to procure 420, 000 metric tonnes of maize leaving a shortfall of 80, 000.
Sichinga said the shortfall will be met by carry overs from last season.
