neo-simutanyi-zambia-reportsThe Centre for Policy Dialogue has advised President Michael Sata stop pre-empting the recommendations of the Technical Committee on the final draft constitution.

President Sata has been recently quoted as saying that the country does not need a new constitution but amendments to be made to the current constitution.

Centre for Policy Dialogue Executive Director Neo Simutanyi says such a statement by President Sata, being a stakeholder of the current constitutional making process implies that not all that has recommended by the Technical Committee will be accepted by the PF government.

Dr. Simutanyi says contrary to President Sata’ s understanding, the country needs a new constitution and that the Technical Committee should be given chance to conclude its work in accordance with the terms of reference.

Dr. Simutanyi also told QFM News that back tracking on the current constitutional making process now will be wastage of public funds as the process has already gobbled huge sums of taxpayer’s money.
