The Foundation for Democratic Process says some constituencies in the country risked finishing the PF five year term of office without representation following the nullifications in the Supreme Court that are ending up being contested.
FODEP Executive Director MacDonald Chipenzi said while the constitution said elections should be held within 90 days of a seat being declared vacant some seats had been vacant for over 130 days with no solution in sight.
Chipenzi cited Peatuke, Mulobezi, Vubwi and Malambo as affected areas with more likely to join the queue after the nullification of the Zambezi West, Mkushi South and Solwezi Central constituencies.
“It is unfortunate that lack of representation in these constituencies is being perpetuated by the ruling party, who have been appealing High Court decisions where the decisions are overturned,” he said.
“The constitution says that an election should be held within 90 days of a seat being declared vacant but now in some seats we are over 130 days. It is unfortunate that the electorates have been denied representation by the continuous nullification of seats.”
