Home Affairs Deputy Minister Nixon Chilangwa says no condoms will be distributed in Zambian prisons until the law is changed.
Chilangwa’s reaction comes in the wake of Health Minister Joseph Kasonde saying inmates needed to be given the right to access condoms as research had shown that sexual activities took place in Zambian prisons.
However, Chilangwa said homosexuality was illegal in Zambia and no condoms will be distributed as that will amount to promoting illegality.
“No condoms will be distributed in Zambian prisons because it is against the law. As long as the law remains the way it is there will be no distribution of condoms because that will be promoting illegality. An illegality is an illegality full stop,” he said.
In Zambia homosexuality is banned by law. PF ministers are notorious for issuing contradicting statements which expose their uncoordinated style of governance by President Michael Sata’s leadership.
