The Patriotic Front power game has taken a drastic twist with Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba resigning his position.
The Kasama Central lawmaker, whose recent visit to Chitimukulu designate Henry Kanyanta Sosala drew a sharp reaction from President Michael Sata who does not recognize Sosala, said he will consult the constituents in his area to know whether to relinquish his position as parliamentarian also.
Mwamba who is a grandson of Sosala visited the Paramount chief this morning before announcing his decision.
Efforts by elders in Kasama among them the clergy led by Archbishop of Kasama Ignatius Chama to make Mwamba rescind his decision went unheeded.
Mwamba popularly known as GBM has been at the helm of one of the ruling party’s wrangling factions with the other led by Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba.
Recently in a false show of unity President Michael Sata had told PF Members of Parliament that GBM and Kabimba would embark on a joint tour of the country to show that the ruling party was united.
President has also been at loggerheads with the independent minded Bemba Royal Foundation that has defied his wish to not have Sosala be installed as Paramount Chief Chitimukulu.
The Head of State even sent paramilitary officers to stop the installation of Sosala further deteriorating the relationship with the Bemba clan.
