lusaka-high-courtJudiciary spokesperson Terry Musonda has confirmed that Acting Deputy Chief Justice Florence Mumba has retired and will leave officer at the end of this month but disputed this was in connection to ridicule the organ has come under recently.

The Zambian Watchdog, a critical website blocked from insider Zambia, reported that Justice Mumba is particularly ashamed for having been part of the five Judges that presided over the Kasenengwa Parliamentary petition which she is said to be of the view that Acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda should not have presided over the case because Victoria Kalima whose seat was nullified was one of the members of the Parliamentary Select Committee that held back the ratification of her appointment.

Musonda, however, told Qfm News that such media reports cannot be true as the official position of the Judiciary is that Justice Mumba retired in December last year citing old age tiredness to continue serving.

He adds that Justice Mumba has also already reached the constitutional age of retirement of 65 years.

Musonda says Justice Mumba will however remain with the Judiciary for a period of one month in order to conclude matters before her.

He says the connection of Justice Mumba’s retirement to the Kasenengwa Parliamentary Seat nullification cannot therefore be true as she has been indicating at many fora her intentions to retire.
