Alliance for a Better Zambia President Father Frank Bwalya has pleaded not guilty to two counts of defamation of the president and proposing violence.
The outspoken opposition leader who spent a night in police custody after being bundled off air at Radio Mano in Kasama was by press time scrambling for the K10, 000 bail imposed on him plus two working sureties.
When the case came up before Principal Magistrate Vincent Silota Fr Bwalya said he understood the charges slapped on him but denied them.
The ABZ leader’s case has been adjourned to January, 26 for mention with February, 6 set as the date for commencement of trial.
Meanwhile the opposition National Restoration Party has offered to pay for Father Bwalya’s legal bill as a mark of solidarity for the ABZ leader’s quest for freedom of speech.
NAREP leader Elias Chipimo said the party would hire a lawyer to represent Fr Bwalya.
