The opposition United Party for National Development says it has written to Home Affairs Minister Ngosa Simbyakula following the police’s decision to deny them the right to demonstrate over increased mealie meal prices.
Party Deputy Secretary General Kuchunga Simusamba said the police had written to the UPND saying they would not police a UPND protest on account that ‘they had better things to do”.
Simusamba said they had written to Simbyakula indicating that they had proposed January 15 as the date for the march.
The UPND had written to the Zambia Police indicating that they be allowed to protest today but the police have denied them that right.
