Former Finance Minister Ng’andu Magande says he hopes that the Patriotic Front government will have a more coordinated approach to development in 2014.
Magande said President Michael Sata’s announcement that INDECO will be re-launched this year was reminiscent of the 2013 impulsive launch of unplanned for projects.
“We fell short of the key targets like inflation which finished the year over 7%, depreciation of the kwacha and the high mealie meal prices,” he said.
“I hope 2013 was a lesson that for real development to take place there has to be proper planning and it very clear that last year there was very little planning.”
He said, “They removed the planning unit at the Ministry of Finance so someone wonders who does that now. Look at the deficit we had and already someone has already announced the coming back of INDEC O which was not in the budget.”
