The Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) says although the deportation of Rwandese Priest Viateur Banyangandora was malicious, the church will not hold grudges against individuals that acted in that manner.
ZEC Secretary General Father Cleophas Lungu says the Catholic community is happy Fr Banyangandora would be heading back to Zambia after the PF government heeded to the church’s request to reverse his deportation.
Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu on Monday revoked the deportation order of Father Banyangandora.
Father Lungu says it is good that the government reversed its decision because the church has always been against it.
Speaking to QFM News, Father Lungu says the long process of dialogue with government over the matter was fruitful because a solution was now found.
Asked whether Father Banyangandora would come back to Zambia, Father Lungu said the Catholic priest is currently serving in his native country but states that once things are put in place, the church will be ready to welcome him back.
