The demand for the new constitution has stepped up with the Oasis Forum directing all churches under its umbrella to allocate time for the new constitution every Sunday.
Addressing a media briefing at Evangelical Fellowship Headquarters the multi organization body said this year will be for cleansing and they will not accept mediocre leadership.
Chief speaker Reverend Suzanne Matale who was flanked by Law Association of Zambia President James Banda, Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) spokesperson Fr Cleopas Lungu, NGOCC Board Chairperson Beatrice Grillo and Evangelical Fellowship chairperson Reverend Pukukuta Mwanza said the current government had fallen short of the required integrity and credibility.
The briefing was held under the banner “What is Golden about Zambia’s Jubilee?”
“On the part of the Oasis Forum, we would like to advise the nation that the three church mother bodies which are part of the Oasis Forum shall direct all their churches and parishes to dedicate some minutes every Sunday to talk about the Constitution and the need to ensure we have one in place soon. This shall continue until we have a people driven constitution,” Matale said.
“The other members of the forum namely LAZ and NGOCC shall continue to hold forum discussions and engage in other nationwide activities to push for a people driven constitution.”
She warned the PF government that the writing is on the wall and that mediocrity will not be accepted.
“…we would like to remind the government that the writing is on the wall: This is a year of cleansing. Mediocrity will not be accepted. People’s demand for a people driven constitution shall be achieved,” she said.
Matale said that the golden jubilee should not be a moment for half hearted pronouncements.
“The writing is on the wall that mere rhetoric and half hearted pronouncements without any action will surely invite a harsh reaction from the Zambian people,” he said.
Other notable attendees were civil rights activist Emiliy Sikazwe, MMD Presidential spokesperson Muhabi Lungu, former Matero MP Faustina Sinyangwe, Chikondi Foundation chairperson Bishop John Mambo, Operation Young Vote chairperson Guess Nyirenda and JCTR Director Father Leonard Chiti.
