The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) says government has hijacked the constitution making process but was accusing the civil society because they had been caught up in a mess.
FODEP Executive Director MacDonald Chipenzi wondered how the civil society had hijacked the process when the document was in government custody.
“Our understanding of hijacking is to take in custody and from what everybody knows government has taken custody of the draft constitution which they have refused to avail to the public. So if anyone has hijacked the process then it is government,” he said.
“If they had any information about NGOs being paid I don’t think they could have sat on it given how things are going for them or if they have the information why not release it and put the matter to rest otherwise we will just be thinking they are looking for every imaginable excuse to deny us our constitution as Zambians.”
He said the government should just deliver on their promises and there will be no need to tell lies about anything or accusing innocent people.
