PF Has Adopted Same MMD Policies They Used to Criticise, Says Pande

The opposition Member of Parliament Kabinga Pande of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) has called on the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) to avoid vindictive attitudes toward the opposition and concentrate on delivering governance to the people.

According to a report published in the Post Newspaper, Pande made these comments during a parliamentary debate over budget for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“We must upgrade our democracy; the tenets of democracy do not only lie in elections, but also in governance,” Pande said.

The opposition MP indicated that citizens’ hopes for change have been diluted as the PF has pursued many of the exact same policies of the former ruling MMD that they used to criticise before coming into power.

“The Public Order Act has continued to be a source of problems, especially for the opposition,” Pande said.  ”Police brutality when they arrest opposition members of parliament should come to an end.  These are some of the things that made MMD lose elections.  Let us move to politics where we are not vindictive.”

Joining the debate earlier was MP Mweemba Mufalali of the United Party for National Development, commenting that it was ironic that the PF heavily criticised the MMD when they made arrests in Mongu (Barotseland) and moved people – but now today it is the PF doing the exact same thing, moving people to Kaoma.”
