Veteran politician Vernon Mwaanga has backed calls by the opposition to form an alliance ahead of the 2016 general elections.
Mwaanga said the alliance should be framed around clearly defined principles to ensure a smooth ride among the political parties.
He said it would be more useful for the opposition to speak with one voice.
“The issue of an alliance or a merger is a good idea that the opposition should think clearly as they pursue it. It will be important for them to speak with one voice on issues of governance, economy and the constitution,” he said.
“It is very important for them to strengthen their position and speak with one voice and be more effective.”
There are currently calls for opposition parties to form a strong alliance to ensure that they are more formidable in their challenge to the faltering ruling Patriotic Front.
